I sooo need to rant. All my fault, of course, I took the 2 dogs out today TOGETHER. I’ve done that before and they’ve behaved in a very civilized way. But today… it was like with kids. You think you are this terrific parent, you are working hard to give them everything they need and then one of them does something criminal and suddenly you are up for worst parent of the year. Mandy saw a small poodle, probably about 20lb, and pulled away (I was bending over picking up poop and didn’t expect this). Her prey drive kicked in and she had the poor thing on the ground, it looked like she was going for neck and belly. While I was trying frantically to get her, Doni, the other dog gets loose and is excited and joins in. Little dog gets away and the chase begins. Little dog’s poor human lady is just screaming because she thinks she’s witnessing her dog’s murder, and I can’t blame her. They all dash onto the railroad tracks, where I finally get hold of Mandy. I ask a bewildered motorcycle/biker guy if he would please hold onto her while I get the other one. Luckily things aren’t as frantic now and Doni is more like trotting along aftelifesar the poodle. Finally poodle responds to her lady’s calls and come back, Doni comes back to me. Lady didn’t find any wounds (THANK GOD!! Really God, Thank you!!) Bob had heard the commotion and came to help, which was a lifesaver.
Mandy lives with 5 cats that she doesn’t chase. She doesn’t chase them outside even when they are running. She does nose taps and snuggles up to them. If she starts at strange cats I explain they are cats and she calms right down. Maybe I can convince her that any dog smaller than herself is really a CAT?
